Philosophy

The preschool program at Lavender Lane is based on the principles and philosophy of Waldorf early childhood education and LifeWays childcare. We recognize each child as a unique spiritual being and nurture the development of the child at his/her own pace, welcoming the unique gifts of each child and giving the time and space for those gifts to shine through.

Our curriculum encourages and challenges the children to fully develop their physical bodies, while fostering the creative imagination and empowering the will.

The soothing rhythm of our day, like breathing in and out, gives the children a deep sense of safety and security and allows them to fully engage in the activities, social experience and creative play, and to realize their fullest potential each day.

The Earth is our home, and at Lavender Lane we nurture a deep and reverent connection to nature and the Earth. In our beautiful garden we find magic and wonder, and children feel safe to explore and discover.

With our small class size and low teacher/student ratio, we are more of a large family than a school. The children form close friendships and learn healthy conflict resolution with the example and guidance of the teachers.

In today’s world of fear and pollution, allergies and disease, it is challenging for the incarnating child to fully come into his/her body. In order to help these new souls feel comfortable in their bodies and welcome and safe in this world, we integrate several energetic healing modalities with the Waldorf curriculum, including EFT and Donna Eden’s Energy Medicine techniques. We highly recommend NAET treatments for children with chronic or severe allergies.

Our school is fully committed not just to the children enrolled, but also to their families. We welcome our families into the life of the school through festivals), birthdays, parent evenings, and home visits. Lavender Lane is the heart of a community of families coming together for support and friendship; learning and growing together.

"If you want children to be brilliant, tell them fairy tales; if you want them to be very brilliant, tell them even more fairy tales."

Albert Einstein

"Education is not the filling of a bucket but the lighting of a fire."
